Special Free Screening of Jonah Hex!

On Sunday the 25th of April, the long awaited Jonah Hex will have a free screening in LA, almost two months ahead of its June 18th US release date!

Synopsis:
Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is a scarred bounty hunter of last resort, a tough and stoic gunslinger who can track down anyone…and anything. Having survived death, Jonah's history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the 'other side'. His only true human connection is with Lilah (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own.

Jonah's past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can't refuse: in exchange for his freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the dangerous terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). But Turnbull is also Jonah's oldest enemy with an army preparing to unleash hell, and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead.

The purpose of this screening is for market research and so the age group restrictions are important. Out of the three original groupings, only two groups are still open for attendees. Those aged 13-24 and those aged 35-39. The 25-34 age group has filled its quota.

The interesting thing about attending screenings like these is that you're usually required to fill in a questionnaire after the screening (as is the case with this screening). The hard bit for many is that you can't go posting stuff about the movie afterwards as it's a long way off release.

If you think you can handle filling in a form and keeping quiet about the film, then check out the PDF for how to go about attending the screening!

I've been to a few screenings like this, and I think it's brilliant. I love to see what changes happen between market research screenings and release. If I could only hear the discussions after a research screening to understand how they decide what to change based on random audience ticks, crosses, and comments, I'd be very happy indeed... I just love all the behind-the-scenes stuff :)

Jonah Hex hits cinemas on June 18th in the US, and August 12th in Australia.

The Dark Lurking

When a movie is being promoted by its makers as “a fun B-grade sci-fi horror flick”, I’m already interested! Then to have the write up on the movie discuss the film as delivering “on a whole bunch of amusing things to tickle the film viewing taste buds of the sci-fi horror enthusiast (.....or basically anyone looking for a cheap thrill) by providing exploding Rabids (zombie-ish type creatures that are just born to get shot and bleed), tough-ass dudes with guns and some weird smokey alien possession - all in the backdrop of space.”, then I’m absolutely sold!!!

The synopsis for The Dark Lurking is as follows:

2017: Something has gone terribly wrong at outpost 30, a secret international research facility one mile beneath a remote part of the Earth’s surface. All communications are gone, all means of escape destroyed and an extremely dangerous horde of creatures is on the loose. For eight survivors, their one possible escape route is through thirteen levels of terror that will lead them to the surface. The Dark Lurking is an adrenaline fuelled action thriller in the tradition of such horror classics as Aliens and The Evil Dead.
