Marvel TV Shows Announced

Starting in 2015, and unfolding over multiple years, Netflix will air the first of four 13 episode series featuring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, & Iron Fist, and culminating in Marvel's The Defenders miniseries.

The series are set in the "gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen", and The Defenders “reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.”.

You can read Marvel's full press release here.

Okay, anyone have tips on how to survive the wait until 2015...? :D

An Update On An Update On The Middleman :D

Yesterday I posted about the wonderful news that Javier Grillo-Marxuach will be bringing us all more amazing Middleman awesomeness through his OGN, The Pan-Universal Parental Reconciliation.

Today I'm thrilled to share a photo of the man himself holding the script of that future wonderfulness!

* makes grabby hands toward script *
If the gifs don't make it clear, I'm super excitapants!

There's no release date yet, but Javi has posted on his tumblr that the script is finished. Now the rest of the process of making a graphic novel begins.

As Javi says "I missed the big green cheese!"

An Update On The Middleman

Since a mention on twitter in March by Javier Grillo-Marxuach that more of The Middleman was on the horizon, I have waited for news on the project. Today Javier Grillo-Marxuach asked if anyone had any questions and, after a moment of 'should I/should I not' bother him, I decided to go for it:

There we have it! A Middleman graphic novel!!! I truly cannot express how excited I am! :D I can't wait for The Pan-Universal Parental Reconciliation to hit stores!

The Middleman

In 2008, The Middleman ran for 12 episodes on ABC Family. It was a fun, pop-culture referencing, series that saw struggling artist Wendy Watson, become a secret agent in training to be the next Middleman for O2STK (Organization Too Secret To Know).

Wendy was selected for training by the current Middleman after she demonstrated the ability to keep cool under pressure when she took on an attacking monster with a letter opener.

The Middleman is both the position and title for the agent. Each new Middleman is selected and trained by the current Middleman, with the trainee taking the mantle when the current Middleman retires or dies.

Today, creator Javier Grillo-Marxuach announced on twitter that there would be more Middleman, and that it might involve a Kickstarter.

With so many success stories coming from crowd-funding sites like KickstarterIndiegogo, and Pozible, just to name a few, and the promise from Warner Brothers to green-light a Veronica Mars movie should they be able to show enough support (currently at $4,322,144 raised through crowd-funding as of this posting), it is no surprise that more and more people are taking their dreams to the public in order to make them reality.

What better way to prove there is a market for your product than by having your audience support it financially upfront and, with so many companies complaining about piracy, it seems this is also a way for people to show they're willing to pay for things they want, and will receive on release, not delayed due to ridiculous excuses based on locations.

Crowd-funding works. I know my first response upon hearing about the opportunity for more Middleman was...

"Shut up and take my money!"

Yes, I'm an excited little critter :D

Marvel #1

Love comics? Can't afford to try the first issues of all the ones you'd love to? Well, Marvel have you covered! For March 11 and 12 (US dates), Marvel have over 700 (in fact it's 725 if I counted correctly) first issues available for free! Head on over to Marvel, comixology, or rev up their comic apps on your tablet, and download some comics! There are both new and old issues to enjoy.

Want to check out the Marvel NOW titles? They're there! Want to read up on some more cosmic stuff after reading the new Nova and Guardians Of The Galaxy books? Grab some of there back issues, and a ton of Annihilation! Curious about Thanos since seeing Avengers? There's a ton of issues featuring him available!

Of course, the ever popular Deadpool has his own section of books, as does Wolverine. The Avengers are well showcased, as a team and individually, and the Young Avengers are in there too :) Thor's section features Loki, Sif, Valkyrie, and the Warriors Three (and the Warrior's Four, lol, yay, Power Pack!) in their own books, and Cap's section has some Falcon, Nomad, and Winter Soldier issues too. The X-Men are well covered in the giveaway as well, with their own section featuring 118 issues dedicated to them, and their various individual members.

If 616 Mainstream Marvel isn't your thing, you can grab some 1610 Ultimate Marvel Universe titles, or even some 199999 Marvel Cinematic Universe issues. The Ultimate Universe titles are an attempt to tell tales in a setting unburdened by the expansive history of the Mainstream Universe, while the Cinematic Universe books expand and complement the Marvel Movies we all enjoy :)

As expected, the sites are experiencing a huge demand for the free first issues, so be patient (I'm using my tablet to download issues due to website timeouts), but most importantly, enjoy your new adventures!

Black Mirror

I've just finished watching the first season of  Black Mirror.

Released in December 2011, in the UK, Black Mirror is a phenomenal series that makes you take a hard look at life, and ask yourself what you'd do in different situations. The series is incredibly dark, and unbelievably good!

Season one is only three episodes long, but each episode is so monumental, and draws you in so completely, that you feel like each is actually movie length. Each episode is also a stand alone story, allowing you to watch them in any order, at any pace. I watched all three in one evening, but I did muck up the order (2, 3, then 1) without issue.

I highly recommend this dark reflection of how technology is, and can be, used in our day to day lives.

The first series of Black Mirror can be purchase on DVD with R2 encoding.  The second series of Black Mirror is currently (February 2013) airing in the UK. DVD release dates for season two have not yet been released.

X-Men Title Relaunches With All-Female Team

With the release of the XX tease image for the upcoming MarvelNOW title from Brian Wood and Olivier Coipel, most guessed that there was an an all-female X-Men book coming, and they were right. The cover image for issue 1 of the new X-Men title has been released, and it shows a great line-up!

X-Men #1
  • Jubilee
  • Kitty Pryde
  • Psylocke
  • Storm
  • Rogue
  • Rachel Grey

I was already excited for the upcoming Uncanny X-Force title, which also features Storm and Psylocke, along with Spiral, Fantomex, and Puck, and while I'm celebrating the fact that Rita will be back in a book, I think the new X-Men line-up may have me even more excited!

Uncanny X-Force is out January 23rd, while X-Men is out in April.

Bring it on!!!
